Randy George theremin

Randy George is one of a small handful of the world’s finest theremin performers. Having made appearances as soloist, chamber musician, studio player, lecturer and video creator, Randy has created waves in the awareness and advancement of the space controlled instrument. Since 2006, his YouTube videos featuring the theremin have been viewed over 21 million times. He has worked with artists and groups including among others: Danny Elfman, John Massari, Bleeding Fingers Music, Hollywood Symphony, Santa Monica Symphony, Dilijan Chamber Music, Gaudete Brass, Lines West, Moon Honey, and educational institutions SUNY Fredonia, Polytechnic University of Valencia, and Chapman University.

Randy holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas College of Music where he focused on bassoon performance, music theory, and live sound recording arts. After a few years as a professional orchestra musician in North Texas, Randy made a career shift toward technology driven creative work in the film music post production industry. A relocation to Los Angeles led him to work at a melting pot for musicians and product manufacturing at the company M-Audio, where he became immersed in the world of intersecting music trades. There he was introduced to the theremin, which bridged his passions for technology, problem solving and performance, and he began the quest to master the art of turning motion into music.

Adjacent to performing arts, Randy is also an avid inventor and interaction designer, with special focus applied toward technology augmented music performance and educational tools. Some of his notable work includes among others, a software interface for real-time resynthesis of musical instruments, a wearable wireless data control device for computer augmented music performance, and an optical apparatus for peripheral gesture sensing. Randy has also made evolutionary strides in theremin performance technique, having completed construction of a high efficiency playing method that greatly expands technical facility for complex melodic musical styles.

Randy George resides in Los Angeles and is planning a full length theremin album release for 2020 which will feature contemporary classical compositions for theremin and chamber ensembles.
